A Spiral Wound Metallic Gasket (SWG) is a type of high-performance industrial gasket commonly used to seal flange joints in piping and pressure vessel systems, especially in applications involving high pressure, high temperature, or corrosive media. Here's an overview:

A Spiral Wound Gasket consists of three main components:

1. Metallic Windings:

   • Typically made of stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant alloys.

   • Wound in a spiral shape with a V-shaped or wedge-shaped profile.

2. Filler Material (Soft Sealing Element):

   • Placed between each layer of winding.

   • Common materials: graphite, PTFE (Teflon), or mica, depending on the chemical and temperature resistance required.

3. Centering Ring and/or Inner Ring (Optional but common):

   • Centering Ring: Helps center the gasket in the flange and prevents over-compression.

   • Inner Ring: Protects the inner edge from media and reinforces the gasket.
